JCC Food Guidelines

Groups renting Jewish Community Center (JCC) conference rooms are requested, when bringing food into the JCC, to follow the below guidelines out of respect for the JCC's constituents and core values.

11. Kashrut Guidelines
Throughout the ages, Jews have observed special practices of eating and food preparation. These practices have led to a widespread acknowledgement that Jews seek to eat food in a kosher (proper or fit) manner. The three categories of kashrut are:

 1) Separation of dairy and meat food items
 2) Abstinence from biblically forbidden foods, such as pork and shellfish
 3) Humane Jewish ritual slaughter of permitted animals

In order to pass these values to our membership, the JCC has adopted the following guidelines for all JCC facilities:

  • Food will contain no ingredients from biblically forbidden animals, such as shellfish or pork.
  • Food will not combine, in the same item or set of items, dairy and meat ingredients, nor may they be prepared together.
  • Meat will be slaughtered by a ritual Jewish butcher.
